Free Will

Jawaharial Nehru once said "life is like a game of cards the hand you are dealt is determinism; the way you play it is free will". This means that some stuff in life is handed to you how you use it is your choice. I for one agree with this because its the choices you make that determine your future. This can be seen in The Golden Door. In The Golden Door Rye leaves the city under his own free will. Then when the skimmers attacked his parents he had to make a choice to run and save his own life or save his parents. Then when he approched the golden door he had to paths to pick.

I am Rye

I am fearless and cunning
I wonder what lies beyond the walls
I hear the skimmers wings outside
I see my family's despair
I want to end the madness
I am not afraid

I pretend i am not scared
I feel the goosebumps coming
I touch the golden door
I worry that i might fail
I cry thinking about my family
I am not afraid

I understand what i must do
I say i'm not afraid
I dream of death
I try not to worry
I hope i will not fail
I am not afraid

I chose this book because it pertained to my topic of free will this story is about a boy who has lived inside a safe wall his whole life and these creatures called skimmers is killing everyone and he must embark on a quest to save his people.

The Hero

"A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles" - Christopher Reeve

The quote is basically saying that any everyday man could be a hero in the eyes of a person that looks up to them. Such as a persons father could be a hero it doesnt have to be a policeman or firefighter or astronaut anyone can be a hero.
